The Carnival in Sciacca is one of the most popular carnivals in Italy.

It starts on the last Thursday before Lent with the symbolic handing over of the keys to the city to the Carnival king, Peppe Nappa, a character adopted by the citizens of Sciacca to be the local mask.

He opens and closes the festival, which ends on Shrove Tuesday, when Peppe Nappa’s float is burnt in the square.

The allegorical floats are also worthy of mention
