Bread Arches

Among all the Easter celebrations, the one held in San Biagio Platani is surely one of the most impressive.

This rite, which has its origin in the cult of the Madonna and of Christ, goes back to the 18th century.

The Bread Arches, which are made strictly from any natural product like cane, willow, asparagus, bay, rosemary, cereal, dates and bread, are full of symbolic significance.

They are officially ready on Easter morning and remain on show in the weeks following Easter.

The most important parts are the central arches, which is where the event historically had its origins and under which the risen Christ meets the Madonna on Easter morning.
